This family-friendly event is for the beginning birder as well as those that know their way around a bird’s wing. Binoculars and spotting scopes are available. Walks will take place rain-or-shine, so dress accordingly. Meet your guide at the boardwalk entrance kiosk at Potter Marsh. Sponsored by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the Anchorage Audubon Society.

Alaska has the nation’s greatest concentration of glaciers, covering almost 30,000 square miles, and Alaska’s No. 1 visitor attraction featuring Alaska glaciers is just a short, spectacular drive away from Anchorage - Portage Glacier and the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center are located just 50 miles south of Anchorage.

Mountains Visible from Anchorage
From downtown Anchorage you can see two active volcanoes, the highest point on the continent of North America (Mount McKinley), and six major mountain ranges including the Tordrillo Mountains (which features Mt. Spurr) and the Aleutian Range (where Mt. Redoubt is located).
