Late afternoon on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail
We just got back from a late afternoon ski on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and thought we would post a quick entry. This is a great ski trail that starts right in downtown Anchorage and extends south along Cook Inlet for 18 kilometers all the way to Kincaid Park. The trail is mostly flat and the views are fanaistic.
Kincaid Park is another great place to ski and has trails for anyone from rank beginner to advnaced pro. Kincaid has over 50 miles of trails and many of them are lighted for night-time skiing - which is a good thing as night comes early here in the winter. Kincaid is groomed for both skate and diagonal skiing though the Tony Knowles trail does not feature cut tracks.
Both trails are convenient to downtown Anchorage and very accessible from the area of Dukes Hotel. If you’re here in the winter you will definitely want to check out the ski trails. These two are just a few of the many possibilities for cross country skiing inside the Anchorage city limits.
Here is a link to the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage for more information including trail maps.
I would write more but it’s time to go get warmed up in a hot bath. Happy trails.
